Dear Guillianna and Elijah,

Sending you both hugs…. and love. Wishing I could know you’re both doing good. I know that you must wonder so many things. Depending on what you have been told or not told, we are always worried for how you handle the very hard and difficult road of not seeing us after being with us every day for so very long. I know that it is not easy, and I am hopeful one day soon things will be better and you will both be comforatable and happy like these photos again.

We just wanted to send you both a hug today – let you know we love you.. and hope that today brings you lots of smiles a good day at school and fun that brings laughter !

We don’t really know that you will ever read our love letters, until your grown but it is is important to both Poppy and Nana to let you eventually know how everyone you loved in the Mitten- still loves you and always will –

THE MITTEN GAME DAY JERSEY!

Dear Guillianna and Elijah:

Remember when we made this photo into a phone case for your parents as a present. Its been a long time since you were this small, but it is still a favorite. Do you remember when you two could choose to wear your favorite team shirt to school? Everyone here in the mitten state usually has a favorite college team to root for. Nana loves them both, and the two of you in these shirts, well who wouldn’t love the representation of BOTH of these two schools !

One day who knows, maybe you will still be fans, and want to attend one of them. Where ever you should end up going to school, you can bet Nana and Poppy will wear those jerseys or love those schools too. Oh wow, we will have to prepare to be getting jerseys to all the grand childrens favorites right? Who knows by then Poppy may not need to wear a tie to work every day, and he can have a collection of school shirts to represent all the grand children! That would be fun, right?

One thing is for sure, it will not matter what you grow up to do, no matter what career path you choose, no matter what direction your life journey leads you on, no matter what city you move to, no matter what team jersey is your new favorite… you will always have Nana and Poppy as your fans!

LABOR DAY –

Dear Guge and Eli,

So its Labor Day and Poppy had the day off work. He did go into the office for a bit, but it is always nice when he doesnt have a full day right? Hope you all did something fun and enjoyed the last days of summer.

Things to look forward to: Cooler temps, falling leaves, fall colors, pumpkins, trick or treating, apples and cider with doughnuts. Football season was always a favorite of daddy’s and you will likely get to decide on Halloween costumes soon if you haven’t already. No word yet from the other cousins what they will be but I will certainly pass it along when I do learn.

What is even more crazy is that Christmas is a little over 3 months away. That is so crazy. We are hopeful every day that today will be the day we see your little faces, and until then we look at the photos, and Poppy and I share stories of you with all your Aunts Uncles and cousins. Aunk Kiki and Uncle Ricky went home today from their visit and likely wont be back until after the New Year. Hope they will get to see you both.

I often wonder where the next duty station will be for you, and don’t ever worry. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are sent from where you are now, there is always FaceTime just like when mom and dad were deployed and we can always travel anywhere.

This site was originally written when Guillilanna was born. During her parents deployment and training, we would keep Guillianna in the Mitten. Then Elijah was born and he too was a frequent flyer to the Mitten. They lived with us on and off for nine years. Over the last deployment to Korea and during the past three years where in the kids lived with us for three consecutive years, the internet and this site was not really used to communicate with their parents, FACETIME was quick and easy. Their dad recently got out of the Army and they were relocated. We have not seen or talked with Eli or Guillianna for months. Last we saw them on FaceTime was May 2018. Last we held them December 2017, just after Christmas. Yet the reality is THIS IS NOT ABOUT just OUR BROKEN HEARTS- it is about theirs, ours and our entire family! for these kids who are so small and innocent, they have had a major change in thier lives. It is our hope that the journaling of our time together, and the and the new love letters for them will one day allow them to truly know the depth of love we ALL here in the Mitten have for them.

This site is also a special gift for our daughter, it documents all kinds of small details and images for her to keep, love and enjoy! These memories encompass nine and six years of the lives of her children! A true gift, that one day she may actually appreciate and have gratitude for. She doesn’t think of us as her parents at present, but maybe in the future, she will sit and reflect on all these memories, maybe she will see the love and dedication that she herself was given because of our love for her. If not, this journal, can hopefully one day allow Guillianna and Elijah to see and feel the truth, the love, and they will realize the amazing impact they have had on all of us here in the Mitten, and they will feel the love of all those who they spent their lives with, before embarking on the new journey they have begun. Friends, family alike have shared in nearly a decade of thier lives and all wish for the family to be happy. If it is a parents right and philosophy to “cut people out of your life like a kindergartener cuts out paper snowflakes” and raise their children to feel the same, this new set of love letters are written with the hope that in time the innocent will feel the love they HAVE always had, and the love they can ALWAYS carry it with them.
